Trusting What God Says Over What We See

What Does It Mean to Walk by Faith Not by Sigh

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” But what does that actually mean? For many people, the idea of walking by faith can feel vague or even intimidating. How do we trust what we cannot see? How do we move forward with confidence when the path is unclear?

At Ascend Worship Church, we believe walking by faith is not just a spiritual phrase it is a real, daily journey of surrender, trust, and obedience. Whether you are new to church, returning to your faith, or have been following Jesus for years, this principle will challenge and strengthen you in life-changing ways.

What Does It Mean to Walk by Faith Not by Sight

To walk by faith means placing trust in what God has promised, even when life circumstances seem to say the opposite. Our natural eyes look for proof, but faith looks to the Word of God.

When the world tells you to trust your success, your emotions, or your plans, faith invites you to trust in God’s ways instead. Hebrews 11:1 explains it clearly: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

In other words, walking by faith is choosing to believe God is working even when you cannot see progress. It means trusting His plan before the outcome is clear and moving forward when the next step still feels uncertain.

Walking by Faith When Life Feels Uncertain

Let’s be real, faith is tested most when life gets hard. Maybe you have been praying for answers and waiting. Maybe you feel alone or unsure of what comes next. Maybe God feels distant. These moments reveal the true strength of your faith walk. Walking by faith is not about pretending everything is okay. It is about believing God is still good, still present, and still in control. Consider Abraham, who left his homeland not knowing where he was going. Or Peter, who stepped out of the boat to walk on water based only on Jesus’ command.

At Ascend Worship Church, we encourage our community to bring their real pain and real questions to a real God. Walking by faith does not require having everything figured out. It simply means staying close to the One who does.

How to Grow in Your Faith Walk

A strong faith walk does not happen by accident. It grows through intentional choices. You do not stumble into deep trust you cultivate it.

Start by staying grounded in Scripture. Daily Bible reading anchors your heart in truth. Romans 10:17 tells us, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The more you know God’s Word, the more your spiritual eyes open.

Prayer is another essential part of your walk by faith. When you talk to God, you invite Him into your decisions, fears, and dreams. Prayer keeps your heart aligned with Him and helps you focus on His voice rather than your challenges. Finally, grow with others. Surround yourself with believers who are also learning to walk by faith. Church is not just a Sunday activity, it is a spiritual family that strengthens your walk through worship, teaching, and community.

Bible Examples of Walking by Faith

The Bible is filled with men and women who chose to walk by faith even when the odds were against them.

Abraham is one of the clearest examples. God called him to leave everything familiar and journey to a new place without a full plan. Hebrews 11:8 says, “By faith Abraham obeyed when he

was called to go out… and he went out, not knowing where he was going.”

Noah trusted God's instruction to build an ark even though there was no rain in sight. Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah… moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household.”

Mary, the mother of Jesus, said yes to God’s plan even though it brought uncertainty and sacrifice. Her obedience shaped history.

These stories are more than inspiration. They are reminders that walking by faith is possible and powerful. They show us that even in uncertainty, we can trust God’s leadership.

Faith Is Not Blind

Some people think faith means ignoring reality, but that is not what the Bible teaches. Faith is not blind, it is deeply rooted in God’s proven character and faithfulness.

You can walk by faith because God has shown time and again that He is trustworthy.

His Word is reliable. His love is unchanging. His power is without limit. When you know who He is, trusting Him becomes the most logical thing you can do. Walking by faith will look different for each of us. For some, it means releasing control. For others, it means taking a leap of obedience. For everyone, it means believing that God’s plan is better than our own.
